3. Nauru is the smallest island country in the world. It was known in the 1980’s for a booming phosphate mining but is now a quiet island off the radar of tourists. Because of this, Nauru is also home to the world’s highest level of type 2 diabetes, with 40% of its population suffering from the ailment.

4. Tuvalu is probably the least known of the places on this list, its formerly known as the Ellice Islands, and located in the Pacific Ocean. It is notoriously difficult to get to and its tourism is very low which also makes it different from the others on this list.

世界一小さい国家ＴＯＰ１０という話題です。世界にはミニ国家といわれる非常に国土の小さい国々がある。それはどういった国々なのか見てみましょうということです。その前に、逆に世界で一番大きな国を見ると、１位はご存知ロシアで１７１０万㎢です。２位はカナダで９９８万㎢、３位アメリカ、４位中国ですね。カナダから中国までは大きな開きはありません。

モルジブの首都 マレ
Republic of Maldives（リパブリック・オブ・モールディーヴズ）。通称、Maldives。モルディブ共和国。ディベヒ語名の「Raajjeyge」とは、島を意味する「rah」の複数形「Raajje」に所有格を表す接尾辞「ge」がついたもの。「Jumhooriyyaa」は共和国の意。「Dhivehi」は「島に住む人」の意。 英語名の「Maldives」はサンスクリットで 「島々の花輪」を意味する「Malodheep（マローディープ。マーラー（mAlA、माला。「輪」）+ドウィーパーハ（dvIpAH、द्वीपाः。「島々」））に由来するとされる。これはモルディブの珊瑚礁の島々が輪を描くように並んで浮かんでいる様子を花輪にたとえたものである。
